OSCE REJECTS ELECTION IN ABKHAZIA AS \'ILLEGITIMATE AND UNACCEPTABLE\'

The OSCE chairman-in-office, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi, issued a statement on 4 October expressing his concern over the holding of presidential elections in Abkhazia. The OSCE statement affirmed support for the territorial integrity of Georgia and stressed that it recognizes neither the independence of Abkhazia nor the election. Noting that \"refugees and internally-displaced persons should be enabled to return to their homes in Abkhazia in safety and dignity before any election in the region can be held,\" the OSCE rejected the election as \"illegitimate and unacceptable.
