KYRGYZSTAN PROTESTS INCURSION BY UZBEK BORDER GUARDS

Kyrgyzstan\'s Foreign Minister Askar Aitmatov has summoned Uzbekistan\'s Ambassador Alisher Salahitdinov to demand an explanation for an incident on 14 February, RFE/RL\'s Kyrgyz Service reported on 19 February. Two Uzbek border guards crossed into Kyrgyz territory, stopped a Kyrgyz bus, asked the driver for his identification, and fired into the air when he refused to comply. The guards were subsequently ordered by their superior officers to return to Uzbek territory.
